Bloom Mental Health Foundation is a non-profit that was started in 2021.
Bloom's mission is to provide the community with mental health support and growth by filling in the gaps of services for mental health students, individuals and families. We offer paid internships, free mental health services and opportunities for funding internships with other qualified mental health supervisors.
"I interned for Carli Papas-Pasco from September 2021 to April 2022. During that time, I learned so much about clinical social work and treating the human spirit. Carli is a phenomenal teacher, mentor, and leader. I learned techniques under Carli’s supervision that carried me through the completion of my graduate degree, and that I still use in my job as a Licensed Eligible Therapist. Carli helped me to understand the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Under her supervision, I learned how to complete intakes, psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, interventions, goal setting with clients, and clinical writing. I believe that my experience working with Carli gave me an advantage over some of my cohort because I was able to engage with clients and develop my own approach to mental health therapy. Carli’s initiative to start Bloom is an important opportunity for the community and future interns to be involved in. It is difficult for graduate students to find direct practice where they can meet the expectations of their program but also develop as future clinicians in a healthy work environment. Carli can provide the type of environment for students to be successful and thrive." -Nohea
"I really enjoyed my intern experience and often reflect on the positive experiences I had. I completed my Practicum and Internship from 2020-2021, and I am currently a Resident in Counseling working toward licensure. Carli was my supervisor throughout my Practicum, and her guidance helped me understand more about dialectical behavior therapy. Carli is also passionate about community-based treatment, and helped me to also understand how to help clients gain more resources in the community. Carli is very down-to-earth, and I felt that I could share my struggles with her openly, and she would listen and provide helpful support. I also worked with Coty Mills as an intern and learned so much about cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy from him as well. He allowed me to shadow his sessions, and that was one of the most helpful learning experiences because I was able to see how the concepts I learned in classes could translate into the real world. Coty also played a really important role in helping me to understand and develop my identity as a counselor. For me, the most valuable time in supervision was reflecting on how my experiences affected me as well as how they affected my work with clients. Coty has been a great support as I continue residency, and I am thankful for the opportunities I have gained from working with Carli and Coty. As an intern, I had a lot more autonomy and supervision than peers in my cohort, and that helped prepare me for the different experiences in outpatient and community mental health settings I have worked in since then." -Natasha
Carli was my supervisor during my counseling internship in 2020 and 2021 and I could not have asked for a better mentor. She was always available and helped me through many difficult cases. As an intern I was able to conduct intakes, see clients regularly and guide them through mental health treatment, and sit in on sessions with Carli. I was also able to discuss cases at regular staff meetings which were both opportunities to get more insight on my cases, and practice giving feedback to fellow mental health clinicians. My experience with Carli was instrumental in my counseling education. -Matt
